LONDON — Manchester City has initiated yet another legal dispute against the Premier League, targeting the regulations concerning “associated party transactions.”
According to recent reports from the British Press Association, City is challenging the modifications made to the associated party transaction (APT) rules, which were approved by Premier League clubs in November of the previous year. These alterations were a response to an earlier legal dispute instigated by the reigning champions.
The APT regulations are established to guarantee that commercial agreements with organizations closely linked to club ownership reflect fair market value. These guidelines aim to prevent situations where sponsorships could be artificially inflated, a scenario that could jeopardize the integrity of financial rules within the league.
The Premier League first instituted these rules in December 2021, following the acquisition of Newcastle United by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
This latest legal move results in a total of three active court cases between Manchester City and the Premier League. Furthermore, the club is currently facing over 100 allegations of financial misconduct brought by the league.
