FORT MYERS, Fla. — In a thrilling encounter on Thursday night, Eastern Kentucky managed to overcome Florida Gulf Coast with a final score of 92-74, thanks in part to an impressive performance by George Kimble III, who contributed 23 points to the winning effort.
Kimble, with his sharp shooting, went 6 for 16 overall, including an impressive 5 for 10 from beyond the arc, and he added 6 out of 7 successful free throws. His performance was complemented by Turner Buttry, who also had a stellar night, scoring 22 points while shooting 7 of 11 from the field and sinking 6 out of 10 three-pointers. Further adding to the team’s offensive capabilities was Devontae Blanton, who finished with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting, along with seven assists.
On the opposing side, Zavian McLean led the Eagles, putting up 23 points, along with six rebounds and two steals. His efforts kept the game competitive, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Colonels’ strong performance. Looking ahead, both teams are set to compete again on Saturday. Eastern Kentucky will be traveling to face Stetson, while Florida Gulf Coast will be hitting the road to match up against North Florida.
