HENDERSON, Nev. — The Las Vegas Aces have strengthened their frontcourt lineup by bringing in 6-foot-4 forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, a move announced on Thursday. This addition is seen as a significant boost for MVP A’ja Wilson, who has been a cornerstone of the team.
Parker-Tyus has a solid track record, having been named an All-Star during her time with the Atlanta Dream two seasons ago. In her peak season, she averaged an impressive 15.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. However, her performance in the last season was hindered by an injury to her left ankle, resulting in averages of 9.2 points and 4.8 rebounds while starting in 11 of her 25 appearances.
With Parker-Tyus on board, she will complement a frontcourt that is already led by Wilson, a player recognized as a three-time MVP and coming off a remarkable season with averages of 26.9 points and 11.8 rebounds. Parker-Tyus expressed her enthusiasm about joining the team, stating, “I’m looking forward to being able to play alongside some of the best in the world, who are like-minded with one goal in mind, which is to win a championship. It’s an honor to be a part of such a prestigious organization with top-tier players and coaches across the board. I’m so excited for what the future brings.”
The Aces are optimistic that having another prominent offensive player will help them regain their WNBA title status. Having won the championship in both 2022 and 2023, the Las Vegas squad recently made headlines by trading Kelsey Plum to the Los Angeles Sparks to acquire Jewell Loyd from the Seattle Storm in a three-team deal on January 28.
Nikki Fargas, President of the Aces, praised Parker-Tyus’s skills in a statement: “She’s a very skilled player and has a great feel for the game. She can stretch the floor, score inside, rebound and defend. We expect she will fit in well alongside the rest of our championship-caliber team.”
With these additions, the Aces are setting their sights high as they prepare for the upcoming season.
