Bianca Andreescu has announced that she will postpone the beginning of her 2025 tennis season following an appendectomy.
The Canadian tennis player, who clinched the U.S. Open title in 2019, shared the news on social media, explaining that she had initially aimed to participate in the upcoming Merida Open but had to alter her plans due to health issues.

In an Instagram Story, Andreescu revealed, “I unexpectedly started experiencing some sharp pain in my stomach, which led to an emergency appendectomy.
The surgery went smoothly, and I’m on the road to recovery. My plan is to be back on the court for the clay season, stronger than ever.”
At just 24 years old, Andreescu’s recent years have been plagued by injuries that have greatly impacted her performance on the court.

She faced a significant setback, missing nine months due to a back injury before making her return to competition in May 2024.
Her last appearance in a tournament was at the Pan Pacific Open in October of the previous year.
Andreescu remains optimistic about her recovery and aims to return refreshed and improved for the upcoming clay season.
