INDIANAPOLIS — On Thursday, the Indiana Fever bolstered their roster by signing free agent guard Sydney Colson, further enhancing a lineup that includes All-Star point guard Caitlin Clark. Colson, who has spent the last three seasons with the Las Vegas Aces—winners of the last two WNBA championships—brings a wealth of experience and success to the team, having previously played a pivotal role in guiding the Texas A&M Aggies to the NCAA title in 2011.

General Manager Amber Cox praised Colson’s experience, stating, “Sydney is a proven veteran in our league. Throughout her career, she has delivered for her teams during critical moments. Her championship experience adds much-needed depth to our point guard position.” Cox expressed confidence in Colson’s ability to adapt to different circumstances and contribute effectively on both ends of the court.

Throughout her professional journey, Colson has averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 assists per game since being drafted by the Connecticut Sun back in 2011 before moving to the New York Liberty. She boasts an impressive shooting percentage of 40.4%, peaking at 44.4% during the Aces’ initial championship run.

A six-time playoff participant, Colson is expected to serve as a backup for Clark. Her addition aligns with Indiana’s offseason strategy of acquiring players with championship experience. The Fever have also signed free agent forwards Natasha Howard and DaWanna Bonner, both of whom come with championship accomplishments. Additionally, they acquired shooting guard Sophie Cunningham, who has a solid track record from her time with the title-contending Phoenix Mercury.

Colson will integrate into a Fever core featuring three returning All-Stars: Clark, forward Aliyah Boston (the most recent WNBA Rookie of the Year), and shooting guard Kelsey Mitchell. Last season, Indiana broke a seven-year playoff drought, making it to the postseason before being eliminated in the first round.

Expressing her enthusiasm about joining the Fever, Colson remarked, “I am very excited for this new opportunity with Indiana. I know several players and coaches from the Fever, and I trust what I know about them. I’m eager to be part of the vision the staff has for this team, and I’m ready to get to work.”
