A man involved in the 2020 murder of rapper Pop Smoke during a robbery at a mansion in Hollywood Hills has accepted a plea agreement, thus avoiding a trial that was set to begin. Corey Walker, aged 24, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to charges of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of robbery, agreeing to a sentence of 29 years imprisonment that will be formally imposed in a future court hearing.

Walker was the only adult facing charges in this case, which also involved three other individuals who were underage at the time of the incident, including a 15-year-old who was the shooter. All of the juveniles had already reached individual plea agreements in the matter.

The circumstances surrounding the case involve Walker leading his accomplices to the rental home where Pop Smoke, known legally as Bashar Barakah Jackson, was tragically killed on February 19, 2020, during what was intended to be a four-day visit to Los Angeles. Authorities indicated that a 911 call from a friend present in the house reported that armed intruders had entered the property.

The robbery was premeditated, as the assailants were aware of the mansion’s address. Reports claim that just one day prior, Pop Smoke had shared a photo on social media featuring a gift bag that contained the address on its label.

At the time of the incident, Pop Smoke was taking a shower when he was confronted by the masked intruders. According to court testimony, during the ensuing struggle, the 15-year-old suspect hit him with a gun and subsequently shot him multiple times in the back.

The attackers managed to steal his diamond-encrusted Rolex watch and sold it for $2,000, as revealed by a detective during court proceedings.

Pop Smoke, who hailed from Brooklyn, made his entrance into the hip-hop industry in 2018, gaining fame with his hit song “Welcome to the Party.” The track, noted for its themes of violence and street life, quickly became popular, leading to a remix featuring Nicki Minaj. He also produced other successful tracks, including his posthumous album, “Shoot for the Stars Aim for the Moon.”
