WEST POINT, N.Y. — Tom Theodorakis has been appointed as the new athletic director at the U.S. Military Academy, taking over from Mike Buddie, who recently left the position after more than five years to join Texas Christian University in the same role.

Theodorakis has been part of Army’s athletics department since 2022, initially serving as the senior associate athletics director for external operations. His contributions were recognized with a promotion to deputy athletics director for external operations and chief revenue officer in 2024.

In a statement announcing his new role, Lt. Gen. Steve Gilland, who oversees the U.S. Military Academy, emphasized Theodorakis’s energetic leadership style and alignment with the institution’s core values. “Theo has been an energizing force within Army Athletics and is the ideal candidate to continue leading our NCAA athletic programs,” Gilland stated. He further underscored Theodorakis’s commitment to preparing cadet athletes for both competitive sports and future leadership roles.

In his previous positions, Theodorakis assumed responsibilities as the sports administrator for men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse. He played a significant role in the Army-Navy game steering committee, along with contributing to the Michie Stadium preservation project. His efforts helped facilitate private funding for the ambitious $170 million renovation project, which is expected to be finished before the 2026 football season.

Before joining Army, Theodorakis held notable positions as a senior associate director of development at Harvard University and as associate athletics director for development at the University of Arizona. A Syracuse University graduate, he also was a member of the men’s lacrosse team that clinched the national championship in 2004.
