In a recent move, outfielder Tommy Pham has signed a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates, marking his tenure with a 10th major league team. The agreement is valued at $4,025,000; however, its finalization is contingent upon Pham passing a physical examination. As he approaches his 37th birthday next month, Pham joins a roster that is looking to enhance its competitiveness.
This acquisition stands out as the most significant move made by the Pirates during a relatively quiet offseason. Besides signing Pham, the team re-signed designated hitter Andrew McCutchen back in December. Recently, they have also secured first baseman Spencer Horwitz via trade and second baseman/outfielder Adam Frazier through free agency.
With this latest addition, the Pirates aim to bolster their outfield depth, pairing Pham alongside Bryan Reynolds and Oneil Cruz. Throughout his 11-year career, Pham has seen considerable movement across various teams; Pittsburgh marks his 10th destination in the majors.
Last season, Pham played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago White Sox, and Kansas City Royals. Across his time on the field, he recorded a batting average of .248, complemented by 20 doubles, nine home runs, and 39 RBIs. Throughout his tenure in Major League Baseball, Pham has accumulated a lifetime batting average of .258 while playing for teams such as St. Louis (2014-2018, 2024), Tampa Bay (2018-2019), San Diego (2020-2021), Cincinnati (2022), Boston (2022), the New York Mets (2023), the White Sox, and the Royals.
