Former partners shine as rivals on HGTV’s ‘The Flip Off’ featuring the El Moussas and Christina Haack

Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack, former spouses and television personalities, have come together again for a new reality show titled “The Flip Off” on HGTV. This reunion follows their initial collaboration on the long-running show “Flip or Flop,” which debuted in 2013. The duo’s journey on that series spanned ten seasons despite their marriage coming to an end in 2017. Even as their personal lives shifted, they maintained their on-screen partnership, often filled with tension, until the series concluded in 2022.

In their latest venture, El Moussa, now married to Heather Rae El Moussa, takes on Haack in a competition where each team selects a property to renovate and sell. The process involves tackling one room at a time, with the designs evaluated by a guest judge. The winner, determined by who earns the most profit from their renovation, is rewarded with a paid vacation and the prestigious title of champion.

Heather El Moussa shared that there has been some playful competition between the teams, with both parties checking in on each other’s progress. “There might have been some spying,” she commented, addressing the curious dynamics as they sought to outsmart one another on design choices and budget management.

As co-producers of “The Flip Off,” which airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, the trio is confident their interactions will resonate with viewers. Haack expressed, “We all knew it was going to be TV gold.” Amid the competitive atmosphere, the show also showcases personal dramas. Haack initially partnered with her now estranged husband, Josh Hall, but following their recent separation, she collaborated with friends from behind the camera, including an appearance from her second ex, Ant Anstead.

In a discussion about their experiences, the El Moussas and Haack reflected on their evolving relationships. Heather El Moussa described how her entry into the chaotic filming environment taught her how to navigate the ups and downs of working with exes, stating, “It’s been such a great relationship that we’ve all built.”

Haack contributed her perspective, noting the duo’s ability to put aside differences quickly once cameras started rolling. “I like making good TV,” she added, indicating that their professional dynamic has always had the potential for a captivating storyline.

Regarding the challenges they faced while filming the new show, Haack identified the pressure of competing designs, explaining that they often went beyond budget as the stakes got higher. Tarek El Moussa, referring to himself as the “king of flipping houses,” shared insights from his extensive experience in the field. “Every time you make a mistake, every time you lose a dollar, every time you get burned, it’s a lesson,” he explained, emphasizing how these experiences shape his approach to future projects.

Heather chimed in, admitting that the emotional aspects can easily interfere with the renovation process. She recalled her initial frustrations over small setbacks, a mindset Tarek encouraged her to overcome by focusing on the bigger picture. Together, they continue to blend their personal and professional lives, creating an engaging experience for both themselves and their audience.
