Martin scores 18 in Marshall’s 77-72 win over Arkansas State

HUNTINGTON, W.Va.
In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, Nate Martin led the Thundering Herd to a 77-72 victory over Arkansas State, contributing significantly with 18 points and securing 14 rebounds.

Marshall, now holding a record of 15 wins and 10 losses, stands at 8-4 within the Sun Belt Conference. Alongside Martin, Mikal Dawson made an impactful presence by scoring 15 points and capturing six rebounds. Dezayne Mingo also played a crucial role, tallying 14 points, which included four baskets from the field although he struggled with his three-point shot, going 0 for 3. He excelled from the charity stripe, hitting 6 of 8 free throws.

On the opposing side, the Red Wolves, who fell to a record of 18-6 and 9-3 in conference play, were spearheaded by Joseph Pinion, who was the standout performer with 21 points. Supporting him, Kobe Julien delivered a strong all-around game, notching 15 points along with 10 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Taryn Todd was also notable with 13 points, contributing two steals and two blocks as well. This defeat marked the end of a seven-game winning streak for Arkansas State.

Looking forward, Marshall is set to face South Alabama in their next game on Thursday in an away matchup. Meanwhile, Arkansas State will aim for redemption against Kent State on Saturday.
