In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night in Austin, Texas, Johnell Davis delivered an outstanding performance, scoring a season-high 24 points, leading the Arkansas Razorbacks to a 78-70 victory over the Texas Longhorns.

Adding to the Razorbacks’ success, Adou Thiero contributed 14 points, while Arkansas capitalized on free throws, sinking 11 of 13 in the closing 62 seconds of the game. This win comes on the heels of a significant 89-79 triumph against No. 12 Kentucky, showcasing Arkansas’s resurgence in confidence. D.J. Wagner added 13 points, and Zvonimi Ivisic made his presence felt with nine points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks.

For Texas, Tre Johnson led the scoring with 25 points, while Arthur Kaluma notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Julian Larry and Kadin Shedrick also contributed to the scoreboard, with 11 and 10 points, respectively, despite Shedrick battling back spasms for a significant portion of the game.

Arkansas initially established a dominant 23-point lead with under 13 minutes left, but a strong rally led by Johnson, who scored 18 points including six during an 11-0 run, brought the Longhorns within five points in the final minute.

The Razorbacks began the game with an 11-0 run, solidifying their lead early on, and Thiero’s five crucial free throws in the last moments of the first half sent Arkansas into halftime with a 35-24 advantage. They continued to build on that momentum by scoring the first 10 points of the second half, highlighted by two 3-pointers from Davis, who later hit another three to extend the lead to 58-37 with just over 11 minutes to play.

The game saw a total of 37 fouls and resulted in 62 free throw attempts, reflecting the physicality of the contest. This matchup marked the first conference clash between Arkansas and Texas since both teams were part of the Southwest Conference during the 1990-91 season.

Looking ahead, Arkansas is set to host No. 3 Alabama on Saturday, while Texas will travel to face Vanderbilt on the same day.
