NEW ORLEANS — Fans are eagerly awaiting Kendrick Lamar’s much-anticipated performance during the Super Bowl halftime show. SZA has been confirmed as a guest performer alongside him, with more information expected to emerge during an interview Lamar will partake in on Thursday prior to the big game. This conversation will be led by Apple Music’s Ebro Darden and Nadeska Alexis at 10 a.m. Central Time, where they will also speak with other pre-game artists.
Lamar steps onto the Super Bowl stage after a successful night at the Grammys, where he took home awards for both song and record of the year, thanks to his powerful diss track “Not Like Us.” Apple Music will share this interview across its platforms and social media channels, including Facebook and YouTube.
This isn’t Lamar’s first appearance at the Super Bowl, as he previously graced the halftime show in 2022, joining a star-studded lineup that included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, and Eminem. Lamar has expressed excitement about returning to the NFL’s biggest stage and contributing to the representation of hip-hop in such a prominent event.
While the upcoming interview could give fans a glimpse into his performance plans, headliners often hold back some surprises until the last moment. For instance, Rihanna famously waited until her Super Bowl show in 2023 to announce her pregnancy with her second child.
The Super Bowl is scheduled to take place this Sunday at the Caesars Superdome, featuring a rematch between the two-time defending champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Philadelphia Eagles.
In addition to Lamar and SZA, the pre-game entertainment will showcase local talent. Jon Batiste is set to perform the national anthem, while Trombone Shorty and Lauren Daigle will take the stage for “America the Beautiful.” Ledisi will also present “Lift Every Voice and Sing” as part of the pre-game festivities.
The national anthem and the performance of “America the Beautiful” will include American Sign Language interpretations by actress Stephanie Nogueras. Otis Jones IV will sign “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” while Matt Maxey will interpret the halftime show. All of the pre-game performers have roots in Louisiana, adding a local flavor to the event.
