FORT WORTH, Texas — Vasean Allette delivered an impressive performance, scoring 22 points and securing 11 rebounds, leading TCU to a narrow 65-60 victory over West Virginia on Wednesday night. This win marked a significant milestone for coach Jamie Dixon, celebrating his 500th career victory.
Dixon, who is an alumnus of TCU, has accumulated the second-highest number of wins in the program’s history, with 172 wins since he took the helm in 2016, following a successful 13-year tenure at Pittsburgh.
Noah Reynolds added to TCU’s success with 20 points on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting, contributing to the team’s overall record of 12-10 and a Big 12 record of 5-6. On the opposing side, Javon Small showcased his skills for West Virginia, scoring 20 points and facilitating the offense with seven assists. In addition, Joseph Yesufu chipped in 11 points, while reserve Eduardo Andre contributed 10 points.
The game’s momentum shifted several times, and Allette made a crucial three-point play with just 1:02 remaining, breaking a 58-58 tie. He subsequently sealed TCU’s scoring with a layup and two free throws. Earlier, Small had evened the score with a layup after stealing the ball, tying the contest at 58 with 1:29 left on the clock.
In a match that featured a series of lead changes, TCU extended their lead to 52-43 following Ernest Udeh Jr.’s three-point play with 8:20 to go. West Virginia responded fiercely, going on a 15-6 run that allowed them to equalize once again.
West Virginia started strong, taking a quick 10-2 lead in the first six and a half minutes of play and eventually pushed their lead to 23-12 following a layup by Small with 7:28 left in the first half. However, the Horned Frogs staged a comeback, outscoring West Virginia 16-6 down the stretch to close the gap, entering halftime trailing by just one point, at 29-28.
Looking ahead, West Virginia will host Utah on Saturday, while TCU prepares to travel to play against eighth-ranked Iowa State the same day.
