CBS’s “60 Minutes” released the full transcripts from its October interview with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, responding to claims made by former President Donald Trump in a lawsuit regarding the integrity of the broadcast. The unedited transcripts aim to demonstrate that the segment was neither manipulated nor misleading, countering Trump’s assertions made in a $10 billion lawsuit he filed against the network in November. This lawsuit is currently a point of discussion in ongoing settlement negotiations.

In parallel, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had previously requested CBS to provide transcripts and video snippets of the interview. The network complied and subsequently made this information available to the public on Wednesday. The interview garnered significant attention due to segments that displayed Harris offering inconsistent responses to a question about Israel raised by correspondent Bill Whitaker.

Trump’s lawsuit, which was submitted prior to his re-election victory, accused CBS of editing the interview in a way that supposedly favored Harris, his political rival. In its response to the allegations, CBS asserted that the newly released materials align with the network’s commitments to transparency, insisting that the telecast was not altered or untruthful. The network emphasized that it’s standard practice for journalists to refine interviews for clarity, duration, and coherence.

“60 Minutes” maintained that when making these editorial changes, its focus is always on truthfulness and enhancing viewer information while adhering to the limitations posed by broadcast television. Despite CBS’s defense against the editing claims, discussions regarding a potential settlement between its parent company, Paramount, and Trump’s camp are reportedly ongoing. Paramount is also reportedly looking to gain approval from the Trump administration for a sale of their assets to Skydance, another entertainment entity.
