Fox News brings on Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of the president, for a weekend program.

Fox News Channel has recently announced the hiring of Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of former President Donald Trump, to host a new weekend program set to premiere soon. The show, titled “My View with Lara Trump,” is scheduled to debut on February 22 at 9 p.m. on Saturday nights. Lara Trump previously served as a contributor for the network, appearing in 2021 and 2022, following her father-in-law’s unsuccessful reelection campaign. Additionally, she held the position of co-chair for the Republican National Committee.

The network has outlined that her program will concentrate on integrating common sense into various aspects of American life during a period the country is entering that emphasizes practicality. Notably, this development marks a unique moment in television history, as it is thought to be the first instance where a person closely related to a sitting U.S. president has secured such a prominent role on television. There have been previous instances of political family members involved in broadcasting, such as Jenna Bush Hager, who has been a fixture on NBC’s “Today” show, and Chelsea Clinton, who reported for NBC News while her mother served as Secretary of State. Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late senator John McCain, was also known for her role on ABC’s “The View.”

In a statement provided by the network, Lara Trump expressed her excitement about returning to Fox News. She stated that she looks forward to directly engaging with the American populace and showcasing the positive aspects of the nation. She acknowledged this period as a “golden age” for America and expressed anticipation for the directions both her country and career might take in the future.

Her relationship with Fox is somewhat nuanced, as her father-in-law has publicly criticized the network when he perceives disloyalty, despite the support many of its commentators offer for his policies. Notably, the current administration also consists of several former Fox personnel, with 19 individuals reportedly now part of the President’s team, including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Fox’s evening programming is predominantly characterized by opinion-led shows. Sean Hannity, a prominent commentator on the network, has had multiple interviews and discussions with Trump during his presidency and continues to engage with him following his return to office.

Details surrounding how Lara Trump’s new program was established remain somewhat unclear. In December, she suggested the possibility of pursuing a Senate seat in Florida by 2026, indicating her political aspirations. Her show will replace a program hosted by Brian Kilmeade, who will transition to Sunday nights.

Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott praised Lara Trump as a “gifted communicator,” highlighting her ability to connect with audiences while also balancing her roles as an entrepreneur and a mother.
