PROVO, Utah – In an exciting matchup on Tuesday night, Caleb Love delivered a standout performance scoring 18 points, while Jaden Bradley contributed an impressive 17 points, all in the second half, leading the 20th-ranked Arizona Wildcats to an 85-74 victory over BYU.
Along with Love and Bradley, Henri Veesaar also contributed 17 points and Tobe Awaka added 14, helping the Wildcats secure their fourth consecutive win. Arizona improved to 16-6 on the season, maintaining a strong conference record of 10-1 in the Big 12, and has now won 11 of their last 12 games, tying for first place with Houston in the conference standings.
For the Cougars, Egor Demin was the top scorer with 16 points, while teammates Dallin Hall and Richie Saunders chipped in with 11 points each. Unfortunately for BYU, their four-game winning streak came to an end as they now stand at 15-7 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
The game saw momentum swing back and forth, with BYU taking a brief lead at 61-60 after Kanon Catchings sank a contested three-pointer. However, Arizona quickly regained control with consecutive baskets from Love and Bradley. Hall managed to bring the Cougars to within a point with a layup, but Bradley responded decisively with a scoring surge that included a 13-2 run, allowing Arizona to stretch their lead to 80-68 with just over four minutes remaining. In the final minutes, BYU struggled offensively, managing only two baskets in the last 7:46 of play.
Key takeaways from the game included Love achieving a milestone as he became the 56th player in Arizona history to surpass 1,000 career points, finishing with 988 points scored since his transfer from North Carolina. Meanwhile, Hall managed to reach double digits in scoring for only the fifth time this season after a slump in which he was unable to score in four of his last five games.
Bradley’s critical performance of scoring 11 points in a rapid three-minute span was pivotal, as it helped the Wildcats create separation from the Cougars.
Statistically, Arizona dominated the rebounding category with a total of 45 compared to BYU’s 30, adding to the Cougars’ woes as this marked their fifth loss this season when being out-rebounded.
Looking ahead, both Arizona and BYU are set to play again on Saturday, with Arizona facing Texas Tech at home, while BYU will travel to Cincinnati for their matchup.
