AUBURN, Ala. — In a commanding performance on Tuesday night, Johni Broome and Chad Baker-Mazara each contributed 15 points as the top-ranked Auburn Tigers secured a decisive 98-70 victory over Oklahoma. This win keeps Auburn undefeated in Southeastern Conference competition, bringing their season record to 21-1, including an impressive 9-0 in the conference.
With this latest triumph, the Tigers have reached a remarkable 14-game winning streak, marking the second longest in the nation. In a repeat display of teamwork, Auburn boasted five players scoring in double digits for the second consecutive game. Denver Jones and Chaney Johnson chipped in 13 points apiece, while Tahaad Pettiford contributed 11 points to the scoring effort.
For Oklahoma, which now holds a record of 16-6 and 3-6 in the conference, Dayton Forsythe was the leading scorer with 13 points. He was supported by Jalon Moore with 11 points, and both Jeremiah Fears and Kobe Elvis finished with 10 points.
Dylan Cardwell stood out defensively for the Tigers, achieving a career-high with six blocks, contributing to Auburn’s overall total of 11 blocks during the game.
In terms of matchups, Oklahoma struggled to maintain a presence in the paint against Auburn’s formidable frontcourt, managing only 20 points in the paint compared to the Tigers’ impressive 46.
Despite being recognized for leading the nation in offensive rating, Auburn’s defense has proven remarkably effective at home this season. This trend continued in the face of Oklahoma’s previously strong offense.
A significant moment of the game occurred when Oklahoma made a brief surge, narrowing Auburn’s lead to four points with a 9-2 run. However, the Tigers responded by closing out the first half with a 6-0 run, taking a 44-34 lead into halftime, and then beginning the second half with another 6-0 streak.
Notably, Auburn’s defense was particularly effective, limiting Oklahoma to a shooting percentage of just 33.3%, which marks a season-low for the Sooners. This comes after Oklahoma had posted an impressive 61-point second half in their previous game against Vanderbilt.
Looking ahead, Oklahoma will host the fourth-ranked Tennessee team on Saturday, while Auburn prepares to welcome the sixth-ranked Florida to their court.
