ATHENS, Ohio — AJ Clayton recorded an impressive 18 points in the Ohio Bobcats’ commanding 94-69 victory over Western Michigan on Tuesday evening.
Clayton also contributed six rebounds to help push Ohio’s record to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in the Mid-American Conference. AJ Brown was another standout for the Bobcats, scoring 17 points while shooting 60% from the floor, including 40% from beyond the arc, and perfect from the free-throw line. Shereef Mitchell added 13 points, going 4 for 7 from the field, including one 3-pointer, and was flawless from the free-throw line, hitting all four attempts.
For Western Michigan, Chansey Willis Jr. emerged as the top scorer, tallying 20 points along with five assists and two steals. Markhi Strickland supported the effort with 12 points, while Javaughn Hannah contributed nine points to the Broncos’ tally.
Ohio seized control of the game early, taking the lead with 15:26 remaining in the first half and maintaining it throughout. Brown’s strong performance in the first half, where he scored 12 points, propelled the Bobcats to a dominant 48-24 lead at halftime. In the second half, Ohio turned up the heat, launching a 9-0 scoring run that allowed them to expand their advantage from 27 to a staggering 36 points.
Looking ahead, both teams are set to play again this Saturday. Ohio will be hosting Appalachian State while Western Michigan welcomes Georgia Southern.
