Bills safety Micah Hyde reveals his retirement following 11 seasons in the NFL

Buffalo Bills safety Micah Hyde has officially announced his retirement after an impressive 11-season career in the NFL. He shared this news via a heartfelt message on his Instagram account on Tuesday.

In his post, Hyde expressed gratitude, stating, “So much love and way too many thanks. From Fostoria to Iowa City to Green Bay to Buffalo.” He referenced his journey from high school in Ohio to college in Iowa and his professional stops in Green Bay and Buffalo. He continued by reflecting on his ambitions, saying, “The goal was to leave an impact. That was one helluva dream. On to the next.”

At the age of 34, Hyde had previously indicated that the current season would mark the end of his playing career after joining the Bills’ practice squad in early December. Following this, he took on the role of a mentor, guiding the team’s younger safeties throughout the remainder of the season and into the playoffs.

Hyde enjoyed a successful partnership with Jordan Poyer, being part of Buffalo’s starting safety duo for six seasons. Both safeties became part of the Bills organization in 2017, signing within hours of each other under the guidance of newly appointed head coach Sean McDermott.

Over his tenure, Hyde developed as a notable leader on the team, recording one interception, forcing three fumbles, and even contributing in the punt return game throughout his 95 starts with Buffalo. He entered the NFL when the Green Bay Packers selected him in the fifth round of the 2013 Draft. In total, he made 128 starts across 158 games during his career.
