ATLANTA — Georgia Tech has announced a three-year contract extension for head coach Nell Fortner, following an impressive start to the season with an 18-4 record and a position in the AP Top 25 at No. 17.
The extension guarantees Fortner’s coaching tenure through the 2029-30 season, as confirmed by the university on Tuesday.
In her sixth year with the Yellow Jackets, Fortner has accumulated a 106-69 overall record, marking the best start for the program in its history after 22 games.
One of the standout players this season, freshman Dani Carnegie, has earned the title of Atlantic Coast Conference’s Rookie of the Week five times. Carnegie currently leads all ACC freshmen with an impressive scoring average of 14.9 points per game.
During her first five seasons, Fortner successfully guided Georgia Tech to three NCAA tournament appearances, highlighted by a Sweet 16 run in 2021.
Her accolades include being named ACC Coach of the Year for the 2020-21 season, in addition to receiving similar honors in the Big Ten while coaching at Purdue during the 1996-97 season, as well as in the Southeastern Conference with Auburn after the 2008-09 season.
In total, Fortner’s coaching career spans 15 seasons, during which she has amassed a record of 268 wins to 185 losses.
