STUTTGART, Germany — Deniz Undav propelled Stuttgart into the semifinals of the German Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Augsburg on Tuesday evening.
The German international made his mark in the match by scoring in the 30th minute, assisted by Ermedin Demirovi?, a former player for Augsburg.
Augsburg started the quarterfinal strongly and created several opportunities to even the score in the second half. Notably, substitute Mert Kömür managed to force a fine save from Alexander Nübel and squandered another chance that could have leveled the match.
This win also marked the end of Stuttgart’s three-match losing streak, giving them much-needed momentum.
However, the game concluded on a sour note, as Stuttgart midfielder Enzo Millot was injured following a foul from Dimitrios Giannoulis, who received a yellow card for the incident. Millot had to be assisted off the field due to the injury.
Later, defending champions Bayer Leverkusen will compete against their local rivals Cologne in a quarterfinal match scheduled for Wednesday.
Stuttgart’s next challenge is a Bundesliga match against Borussia Dortmund away on Saturday.
