Week 13 Women’s College Basketball Player Recognition
The standout player recognized for Week 13 in women’s college basketball is Mikayla Blakes from Vanderbilt. This talented freshman guard made headlines by breaking the NCAA freshman single-game scoring record with an impressive 53 points against Florida. Blakes’ remarkable achievement also established a new SEC single-game scoring record that had remained unchallenged for more than 22 years. Notably, she is the only player in NCAA Division I — across both men’s and women’s basketball — to score at least 50 points in a game this season. Over her two games, she maintained an astounding average of 34.5 points, shooting an impressive 63.6% from the floor.
In the runner-up spot is Hannah Hidalgo from Notre Dame. The sophomore guard showcased her scoring prowess by delivering two consecutive 30-point games, leading the Irish to victories over Virginia Tech and Louisville. With this achievement, Hidalgo has now accomplished back-to-back 30-point games twice this season, joining the ranks of Jewell Loyd as the only players in the past 25 years at Notre Dame to achieve this feat. Throughout her two games, Hidalgo averaged 32 points alongside five assists, showing excellent shooting skills at 57.9%.
Honorable mentions this week include Lucy Olsen from Iowa, Hailey Van Lith from TCU, and Riley Weiss from Columbia.
Additionally, Mia Jacobs, a forward for Fresno State, had a standout week, leading her team to a perfect 2-0 record. Over these games, she averaged 29.5 points and 13 rebounds, highlighted by a career-high 36 points against San Jose State, alongside 11 rebounds and four steals. Her outstanding performance is worth noting as she continues to make her mark in women’s college basketball.
