Jane Figueiredo, recognized as a “trailblazer” by Aquatics GB, announced her departure on Tuesday, concluding an impactful 11-year tenure.
Alexei Evangulov, the head coach for diving at Aquatics GB, emphasized the significant influence Figueiredo has had on the history of British diving, stating that her contributions are invaluable.
At 61 years of age, Figueiredo has been instrumental in securing eight Olympic medals for the UK, notably including the men’s 10-meter synchronized diving gold achieved by Daley and Matty Lee during the Tokyo 2021 Games.
Last year in Paris, Daley, alongside teammates Noah Williams and Scarlett Mew Jensen, clinched medals, contributing to what has been hailed as Britain’s greatest Olympic diving performance to date.
Figueiredo expressed that now is the right moment for her to prioritize herself and her family.
Reflecting on her journey, she noted, “The last 11 years with Aquatics GB and Dive London in the performance center has just been incredible — probably the most exciting, most fun time of my career, leading Tom Daley and then the rest of the cohort of Olympians who have won medals over the past three cycles.”
