MADRID — Real Madrid is facing further challenges in their defensive lineup with the recent news of David Alaba suffering a muscle injury.
The club confirmed that Alaba has sustained an adductor injury in his left leg, complicating their defensive issues.
According to reports from Spanish media, it is anticipated that Alaba may be unavailable for a period of two to three weeks, which raises concerns as he is likely to miss crucial upcoming fixtures against Atletico Madrid in La Liga this Saturday and Manchester City in the Champions League the following week.
Alaba had only just made his return to the field last month after being out of play for over a year due to a knee injury.
The timing of this new setback is unfortunate, occurring just a day after the club reported a right leg muscle injury to fellow central defender Antonio Rüdiger, which is also expected to sideline him for a similar duration.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s situation has become quite precarious as he already has Éder Militão and Dani Carvajal unavailable due to injuries.
This leaves young talent Raúl Asencio as the sole central defender ready for selection.
Consequently, Ancelotti has been forced to adapt by deploying midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni in a central defensive role to fill the gaps in the backline.
