PARIS — U.S. Vice President JD Vance is set to participate in a two-day high-level summit centered on artificial intelligence in Paris next week. This marks his first international engagement since taking office, as confirmed by a French diplomatic source.
The event, known as the AI Action Summit, aims to convene heads of state, senior government officials, CEOs, and key figures in the tech industry to discuss the rapid developments in AI technology.
Since his inauguration last month, Vance has not undertaken any official trips abroad. The French official who provided this information requested anonymity since the comprehensive list of attendees has not yet been made public.
When approached for comment, the U.S. Embassy directed inquiries to the White House and did not provide additional details.
Notable attendees at the summit are expected to include China’s Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, along with co-chairs French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Vance’s attendance follows recent statements from President Donald Trump about a collaborative venture poised to invest up to $500 billion in infrastructure related to artificial intelligence. This initiative involves a partnership among OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, referred to as Stargate, which will initiate the development of data centers and the necessary power supply in Texas to foster AI advancements, according to White House reports.
In parallel, the introduction of China’s DeepSeek AI model has disrupted the tech landscape by offering businesses access to this technology at significantly reduced costs. This development could compel existing AI firms to enhance their offerings and lower their prices.
In previous discussions, Vance has recognized the potential risks associated with certain AI applications. However, during a Senate hearing in July, he expressed concerns that such worries might lead to “preemptive overregulation efforts,” which could inadvertently solidify the dominance of existing tech leaders in the industry.
