PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached a one-year agreement with left-handed reliever Tim Mayza on a contract worth $1.15 million, announced on Monday.
In the previous season, Mayza recorded a 0-2 win-loss record along with a 6.33 earned run average (ERA) over the course of 50 appearances in relief for both the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Yankees. Notably, he did not surrender any runs during his three appearances in the postseason.
Now aged 33, Mayza has established a solid track record over his seven years in Major League Baseball, boasting a career record of 20 wins and 9 losses, with a 3.88 ERA and four saves while playing for Toronto (2017-2024) and New York. His journey has not been without challenges; he underwent Tommy John surgery on September 18, 2019, after sustaining an elbow injury in a game against the Yankees. He made an impressive comeback to the big leagues in April 2021.
Additionally, the Pirates made a roster move by designating infielder Alika Williams for assignment.
