The U.S. women’s national hockey team announced on Monday that it will be without several vital players, including Alex Carpenter, as they prepare to conclude their pre-world championship Rivalry Series against Canada this week.

Carpenter, who currently leads the PWHL New York Sirens with six goals, is unable to participate due to an upper-body injury sustained in a recent game against Boston. Joining her on the sidelines are Grace Zumwinkle and Hayley Scamurra.

Zumwinkle, recognized as the PWHL’s rookie of the year last season, has been dealing with an upper-body injury since January 4, while Scamurra has missed the last four games while playing for Toronto.

Additionally, Gabby Rosenthal of New York has been ruled out due to an undisclosed injury after she was initially selected to the U.S. roster.

To fill the gaps in the lineup, the team will bring in Izzy Daniel from Toronto, Mannon McMahon from Ottawa, and both Clair DeGeorge and Maureen Murphy from Montreal.

The U.S. is currently trailing in the best-of-five series against Canada, with a record of 2-1, which includes a shootout defeat. Upcoming matches are scheduled for Thursday in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Saturday in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

Following this series, the national team will shift its focus to the world championship tournament set to take place in the Czech Republic from April 9-20. Last year, the U.S. finished as the runner-up, narrowly losing to Canada with a score of 6-5 in overtime during the championship match.
