HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have officially appointed Nick Caley, previously an assistant with the Los Angeles Rams, as their new offensive coordinator, as reported by a source close to the situation. This announcement comes as the Texans work to strengthen their coaching staff, and the individual providing the information did so anonymously since the team has yet to make a formal announcement regarding the hiring.

Caley was most recently the passing game coordinator and tight ends coach at the Rams during the past season. He is set to take over the offensive coordinator position from Bobby Slowik, who was let go from the team after two seasons in the role, creating an opportunity for Caley to step in. At 42 years old, Caley has a wealth of experience, having spent two years with the Rams and prior to that, serving as an assistant with the New England Patriots from 2015 to 2022. His coaching career began in the college ranks, where he gained ten years of experience with various programs before transitioning to the NFL.

Under Caley’s leadership, the Texans will look to optimize an offense that is directed by quarterback C.J. Stroud. During his second year, Stroud and the offense struggled to maintain momentum. In 2023, the Texans finished 12th in the league for scoring, averaging 22.2 points per game, and ranked 12th in total yardage at 342.4 yards per game. Despite this downturn in performance, Stroud still garnered significant accolades, being named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year as he led Houston back to the playoffs for the first time in four seasons.

In the wild-card round, the Texans achieved a notable victory over the Cleveland Browns, with Stroud, at only 22 years old, becoming the youngest quarterback in history to secure a playoff win. However, during the past season, the Texans ranked 19th in scoring with an average of 21.9 points and placed 22nd in total yardage, recording 319.7 yards per game. Stroud faced numerous challenges, being sacked 52 times—the second-highest total in the league—resulting in his performance metrics dropping while his interception count increased from five to twelve.

Despite facing obstacles, the Texans managed to achieve a record of 10-
