Blues conquer Utah 2-1 with Jordan Kyrou’s clutch late goal, ending four-game skid

SALT LAKE CITY — Jordan Kyrou netted the decisive goal with a powerful slap shot during the third period, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Sunday evening. This win marked the end of a four-game losing streak for the Blues and showcased the impressive defensive performance of goalkeeper Jordan Binnington, who made 24 saves throughout the match.

The scoring commenced late in the first period when Alexandre Texier put the Blues ahead. This victory marked St. Louis’s first win against Utah this season after suffering defeat in their previous two encounters.

Michael Kesselring managed to even the score for Utah early in the third period. Goalie Connor Ingram made 27 saves, but the loss was a setback for Utah, marking their third consecutive defeat at home.

Texier’s goal came from a well-placed wrist shot that slid between Ingram’s legs with just 2:19 left in the first period. Kesselring’s long-range slap shot, which found the back of the net at 3:27 in the third, briefly revived hopes for Utah.

In terms of takeaways, the Blues dominated in defensive play at the start, showing a significant lead in shots on goal with a total of 15-6 in the first period. Conversely, Utah struggled to create consistent pressure on the Blues’ goal, a sharp decline from their earlier matches where they averaged four goals against St. Louis.

A pivotal moment in the game was Kesselring’s impressive 67-foot shot that revitalized Utah’s chances for a comeback. However, Kyrou’s goal provided St. Louis with a much-needed buffer to secure the win and halt their losing streak.

A noteworthy statistic for the Blues is their improved record of 14-1-2 this season when leading after the first period, alongside 17 wins out of 25 instances when they scored first.

Looking ahead, both teams will take to the ice again on Tuesday night. The Blues will commence a six-game homestand playing against Edmonton, while Utah will play host to Philadelphia.
