In Vancouver, British Columbia, the Canucks faced a challenging situation as their star defenseman Quinn Hughes was unable to participate in the game against the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. This came after Hughes suffered an undisclosed injury in a recent loss to the Dallas Stars just two days prior.

The notable player, who previously won the Norris Trophy for being the NHL’s top defenseman, was seen warming up with the team before the game but spent considerable time conversing with trainers on the bench. Ultimately, he left the ice early and was subsequently ruled out of the matchup.

Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet had indicated earlier in the day that Hughes would be a game-time decision. With Hughes unable to play, Derek Forbort was assigned to fill in for him and joined Filip Hronek on the Canucks’ primary defensive pairing.

Hughes has had an impressive season so far, racking up 14 goals along with 45 assists in 47 games, making him the top scorer for the Canucks this season. The absence of such a pivotal player undoubtedly posed a significant challenge for the team as they prepared to take on their opponents.
