FORT WORTH, Texas — David Punch delivered an impressive performance with 19 points as TCU secured a 68-57 victory over Colorado on Sunday.
After falling behind by seven points at halftime, Colorado managed to narrow the gap to 44-40 with 13:03 remaining. Punch, however, sparked a significant turnaround with two 3-pointers, a dunk, and a remarkable 11 points during a crucial 24-6 run that gave TCU its largest lead of the game at 68-50 with just 2:23 left on the clock.
Noah Reynolds contributed another 11 points for TCU (11-10, 4-6 Big 12), helping the team snap a three-game losing streak. On the other side, Andrej Jakimovski led Colorado (9-12, 0-10) with 13 points, while Bangot Dak added nine points and collected 12 rebounds. Despite Colorado outrebounding TCU 34-22, the Horned Frogs capitalized on Colorado’s struggles, scoring 28 points off of 19 turnovers committed by the Buffaloes.
The game began with Colorado taking an early lead, jumping out to an 11-2 advantage and holding a 24-18 lead midway through the first half. TCU fought back, however, and ended the half with a commanding 16-3 run to take a 34-27 lead into halftime. Jakimovski was a key player for Colorado in the first half, scoring eight points, while Reynolds led TCU with seven points.
Unfortunately for the Buffaloes, this defeat marked their tenth consecutive loss, their longest losing streak since struggling through 12 losses during the 2008-09 season.
TCU’s head coach, Jamie Dixon, is now just one win shy of reaching 500 career victories. His 171 wins at TCU place him second on the school’s all-time coaching list.
Looking ahead, TCU will host West Virginia on Wednesday, whereas Colorado will be traveling to Utah for their next matchup.
