Georgia Amoore posts personal best 43 points as No. 12 Kentucky defeats No. 13 Oklahoma 95-86

    NORMAN, Okla. — In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, Georgia Amoore shone for No. 12 Kentucky, scoring a remarkable 43 points, including seven 3-pointers, leading her team to a 95-86 victory over the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners.

    Amoore, who was instrumental in this win, contributed significantly in the first quarter with two 3-pointers and a total of 10 points, helping the Wildcats establish a solid 30-19 lead. She exhibited an impressive shooting performance, hitting 15 of 22 attempts from the field, 7 of 12 from long range, and completed 6 of 8 from the free-throw line, additionally providing eight assists.

    With this performance, she not only excelled but also tied the school record for points in a game, previously set by Jennifer O’Neill in 2013 and matched by Rhyne Howard in 2020.

    Alongside Amoore, Clara Strack added 19 points and gathered six rebounds before fouling out, playing a crucial role in the Wildcats’ recent success as they claimed their third consecutive victory. Dazia Lawrence also contributed with 14 points, hitting three of Kentucky’s total of 14 3-pointers during the game.

    For Oklahoma, sophomore Sahara Williams had a standout game, scoring a career-high 27 points while shooting 8-for-19. Raegan Beers registered a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Payton Verhulst also achieved a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Beers notched her ninth double-double of the season, while Verhulst, who had earlier recorded a triple-double in an overtime loss to then-No. 13 Duke, marked a significant performance as well. Freshman Zya Vann contributed 15 points off the bench, while her older sister Skylar Vann scored 11 points.

    Despite trailing 45-36 at halftime, Oklahoma started the third quarter strong with a 10-2 run, closing the gap to just a point with back-to-back baskets from Skylar Vann. However, Amelia Hassett responded with a 3-pointer for Kentucky, and soon after, Strack contributed eight consecutive points, followed by another 3-pointer from Amoore, culminating in a 16-0 run that solidified Kentucky’s lead.

    Looking ahead, Oklahoma will face Mississippi on Thursday, while Kentucky will take a break before their matchup against Mississippi on February 10.
