LAFAYETTE, La. — Barry Dunning Jr. led South Alabama to a hard-fought victory over Louisiana with 18 points, securing a 62-58 win in overtime on Saturday evening.
In addition to his scoring, Dunning contributed significantly on the boards, pulling down 15 rebounds for the Jaguars, who now hold a record of 15-8 and sit at 7-4 in the Sun Belt Conference. Myles Corey was also pivotal in the game, adding 17 points while shooting 5 of 13 from the floor, which included two successful attempts out of seven from beyond the arc, alongside five made free throws from ten attempts. Elijah Ormiston finished strong, scoring 13 points on an efficient 6 of 9 shooting from the field.
The Ragin’ Cajuns, who now have a record of 7-16 and 5-6 in conference play, found their leading scorer in Mostapha El Moutaouakkil, who tallied 17 points and secured 11 rebounds in the matchup. Kentrell Garnett also made a notable contribution with 12 points, five assists, and three steals, while Brandon Hardy chipped in with eight points of his own.
El Moutaouakkil played a crucial role in regulation, sinking two free throws with just 52 seconds left, tying the game at 56 and ultimately sending the contest into overtime. Looking ahead, both teams are set to take the court again on Wednesday. South Alabama will head to Coastal Carolina, while Louisiana is scheduled to face Georgia Southern.
