PINE BLUFF, Ark. — On Saturday night, Mississippi Valley State triumphed over Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a final score of 79-76, thanks in large part to Arthur Tate, who scored 20 points in the contest.
In the closing seconds, Doctor Bradley managed to make a layup, narrowing the gap for Arkansas-Pine Bluff to 78-76. However, Mississippi Valley State’s Jair Horton secured the game by sinking a free throw afterward. Caleb Jones then attempted a 3-pointer for the Golden Lions, but it failed to connect, sealing the victory for the Delta Devils.
Tate was instrumental not only with his scoring but also contributed significantly on the boards with eight rebounds for Mississippi Valley State (3-19, 1-8 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference). Horton also played a vital role, delivering 14 points while shooting 4 for 9 overall, including 2 for 4 from beyond the arc, and managing to hit 4 out of 8 free throws. Additionally, Moses Horne added to the score with 13 points, shooting 3 for 8 and making 2 of 5 from 3-point range, corroborated by an impressive 5 for 6 from the foul line. This victory marked a significant turnaround, as it ended the Delta Devils’ 12-game losing streak.
On the other side of the court, the Golden Lions (3-18, 0-8) were guided by an outstanding performance from Doctor Bradley, who notched 29 points, along with nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals. His teammates, Raphael Dumont and Dante Sawyer, added 12 points each to the scoreboard. Unfortunately for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, this disappointing outcome was their eighth consecutive defeat.
