UNC Wilmington defeats Stony Brook with a score of 80-70

WILMINGTON, N.C. — In a strong showing on Saturday night, Donovan Newby led UNC Wilmington with a total of 20 points as they triumphed over Stony Brook with a score of 80-70.

Newby was efficient on the court, hitting 5 of his 10 attempts, including 3 of 7 attempts from beyond the arc, and he completed an impressive 7 of 7 from the free-throw line, contributing to the Seahawks’ record of 18 wins against 5 losses and an 8-2 mark in the Coastal Athletic Association. Greedy Williams also made significant contributions, going 4 for 4 from the field while finishing with 15 points after hitting 6 of 11 free throws. Bo Montgomery added to the scoring, finishing with 12 points, shooting 5 of 8 overall and 2 of 4 from the three-point line. This victory marked UNC Wilmington’s sixth consecutive win.

The Seawolves, struggling this season with a 5-18 record and 1-9 in conference play, saw Collin O’Connor perform exceptionally well, leading his team with 27 points. His teammate, CJ Luster II, also made an impact by contributing 15 points, while Nick Woodard added another 14 points to the scoreboard.

UNC Wilmington surged ahead early, taking the lead just five minutes into the first half, a lead they maintained throughout the game. Montgomery was the standout in the initial period, scoring 10 points and helping his team to a 42-31 advantage at halftime. Newby’s impressive 15 points in the second half were pivotal in securing the Seahawks’ ten-point victory.

Looking forward, both teams are set to continue their seasons with matchups on Thursday. UNC Wilmington will head to Delaware while Stony Brook is slated to face Towson at home.
