Dorn tallies 19 points as Elon defeats Northeastern 71-60

ELON, N.C. — In a decisive victory on Saturday evening, Elon secured a 71-60 win over Northeastern, with Nick Dorn leading the charge by netting 19 points.

Dorn had a shooting performance that included 3 successful attempts out of 10, with 2 of those coming from beyond the arc, and he excelled at the line, making 11 out of 13 free throws for the Phoenix (15-8, 6-4 in the Coastal Athletic Association). TK Simpkins contributed significantly, finishing with 15 points, shooting 4 for 10 overall, including hitting 1 of 3 from 3-point range, and perfecting all his six attempts from the free-throw line. Adding depth to the team’s performance, Matthew Van Komen recorded a double-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 blocks, completing his 6 for 10 from the field.

On the opposing side, the Huskies (12-11, 4-6) found their momentum through William Kermoury, who led their scoring efforts with 15 points. Rashad King also chipped in with a solid 15 points, while Collin Metcalf supported the team with 10 points and contributed two blocks.

The first half ended in a stalemate, with both teams tied at 28 points each. Van Komen emerged as the leading scorer for Elon in the initial half, tallying 10 points. As the second half unfolded, Elon established their lead permanently following a free throw by Simpkins at the 16:39 mark, bringing the score to 31-30 in their favor.

Both teams are slated for matches on Thursday, with Elon traveling to play Campbell, while Northeastern will take on Hofstra in their respective games.
