TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Mark Sears delivered an impressive performance with 20 points as the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide secured a convincing 90-69 victory over Georgia on Saturday, marking their fifth consecutive win and their 14th victory in 15 games.
Grant Nelson contributed significantly with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks, while Aiden Sherrell came off the bench to add 12 points. Chris Youngblood and Aden Holloway both chipped in 10 points each, and Clifford Omoruyi dominated the boards with 11 rebounds. With this win, Alabama improves to 19-3 overall and 8-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
For Georgia, Asa Newell led the way with 16 points, and RJ Godfrey contributed 10 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win in this matchup as the Bulldogs fell to 15-7 and 3-6 in conference play.
In terms of key observations, Alabama struggled with turnovers, averaging about 12 per game, which escalated to 20 against Georgia. Despite these missteps, the Crimson Tide was able to counteract them by shooting an impressive 54% from the field and dominating the rebounding battle 52-36.
Georgia has faced challenges in recent weeks, losing four of their last five games leading up to February, and the defeat against Alabama marked another tough outing for them.
A pivotal moment in the game occurred when it was tied at 10. Alabama launched a streak of 14 consecutive points, hitting 7 of their 8 attempts in a quick five-minute span. Sherrell, who typically averages just two points, was a standout during this run, hitting two 3-pointers and scoring eight points total. From that point on, Georgia could not draw closer than eight points.
Statistically, Alabama excelled from beyond the arc, shooting 42% (11 for 26) on 3-pointers, while Georgia struggled with a mere 17% (4 for 23). Alabama also showcased their proficiency at the free-throw line, converting 19 of 23 attempts, whereas Georgia made 11 of their 23 attempts.
Looking ahead, Alabama will face off against Arkansas on Saturday, while Georgia will return home to take on LSU this coming Wednesday.
