Fog Forces Cancellation of World Cup Downhill in Garmisch, Halting Training Runs

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – Due to inclement weather conditions, officials have made the decision to cancel the men’s World Cup downhill race scheduled for Sunday. This announcement followed the cancellation of both training sessions, which had previously been impacted by fog.

On Saturday, the practice run faced delays caused by poor visibility on the ski course, ultimately leading the organizing committee to determine that continuing was not feasible. The training session on Friday also did not take place due to similar fog issues.

In a statement released on Saturday, the organizers expressed their disappointment: “Unfortunately, the decision has also been made to cancel tomorrow’s DH race.” As a result of this cancellation, Sunday’s event was to have been the final race before the world championships set to commence in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria, on Tuesday.

This development adds to the challenges faced by competitors and event planners as they approach the world championship week, a crucial time in the alpine skiing calendar.
