DALLAS — In a thrilling match, the Dallas Stars triumphed over the Vancouver Canucks with a score of 5-3 on Friday night, thanks to impressive performances from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz, both of whom netted two goals and contributed an assist. Rookie Oskar Back added another goal to the tally, while goaltender Jake Oettinger secured the win with 26 saves, marking the Stars’ fourth consecutive victory.

The Canucks’ scoring came from Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk, and Carson Soucy, but they were unable to extend their three-game winning streak. Thatcher Demko, in his first official regulation loss to the Stars, recorded 11 saves during the contest. Notably, four goals were tallied in the final four minutes of the match, including two empty-net goals from the Stars, securing their victory.

Robertson propelled the Stars ahead to a 2-1 lead with just 3:31 left in the second period, responding after Garland had leveled the score earlier in the period. Hintz struck early in the third with a goal and then sealed it with a shorthanded empty-netter, bringing his season total to a remarkable 22 goals, making him the top scorer for the team. Robertson has also been on fire, registering 27 points (12 goals, 15 assists) in his last 19 games.

The statistics speak volumes, with the Stars boasting a record of 23-1-1 when leading after two periods, while the Canucks remain winless (0-15-3) when trailing after two.

In notable developments, the Canucks made the decision to scratch forward J.T. Miller before the game and confirmed a multi-player trade deal with the New York Rangers during the second period. For the Stars, Oettinger has been stellar this season, achieving a 9-2-0 record in January, with 26 wins to date, second only to Connor Hellebuyck of Winnipeg, who has 32. Moreover, the Stars are 15-4 in games where they have been outshot.

A key moment came when Dallas defenseman Brendan Smith, who has been shifted to a forward role due to injuries on the team, was instrumental in setting up Back’s opening goal with a smart backhand play that curled around Vancouver’s net.

Another pivotal statistic revealed that the Stars possess the league’s top-rated home penalty kill, successfully stopping 4 out of 5 attempts and maintaining an impressive overall rate of 89.9%—62 successful kills out of 69 attempts.

Looking ahead, the Canucks will host the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday, while the Stars will face the Columbus Blue Jackets at home.
