EINDHOVEN, Netherlands — PSV Eindhoven forward Ricardo Pepi will be sidelined for an extended period, as confirmed by coach Peter Bosz on Friday. The United States international incurred a knee injury during a midweek victory over Liverpool in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old Pepi had a significant impact on the match, scoring the decisive goal just before halftime in the thrilling 3-2 win. He was subsequently substituted in the 76th minute after sustaining the injury.
This season, Pepi has made an impressive mark, netting 17 goals across 28 appearances in all competitions, and he has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League side West Ham United.
Bosz addressed the media indicating that the team would actively seek a replacement for Pepi ahead of the closing of the winter transfer window. He refrained from providing a specific timeframe for Pepi’s recovery but emphasized that it would not be a short-term absence, stating it is “not a matter of weeks.”
Before his stint at PSV, the Texan was part of FC Dallas before making a move to Bundesliga team Augsburg in January 2022.
As of now, PSV is leading the Eredivisie by a four-point margin over Ajax as they head into the weekend. Additionally, the team has been drawn to face Juventus in a two-legged playoff to secure a place in the Champions League round of 16.
