The San Diego Padres have officially re-signed catcher Elias Díaz to a one-year deal, which includes a mutual option for the 2026 season.
This announcement was made by the team on Thursday.

At 34 years old, Díaz had a productive season with both the Padres and the Colorado Rockies in the previous year.
He finished with a batting average of .265, hitting six home runs and driving in 39 runs across 96 games.
His journey back to the Padres came after he was released by the Rockies on August 16, prior to which he had already made a notable impact on his team.

Díaz first entered the major leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2015.
Over his career, he has maintained a batting average of .251, accumulating 62 home runs and 297 RBIs across 724 games.

Notably, Díaz received the Most Valuable Player award at the All-Star Game following his two-run home run during the National League’s 3-2 victory in 2023.
He had an impressive season with the Rockies as well, hitting .267 with 14 home runs and achieving a career-high of 72 RBIs in 141 games.
