NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Titans have bolstered their front office by appointing Dave Ziegler as assistant general manager and Reggie McKenzie as vice president and football adviser, providing support to newly appointed general manager Mike Borgonzi.
The team made the announcement on Thursday, introducing the two individuals who have past experience as NFL general managers. With the Titans holding the top pick in the upcoming NFL draft and around $50 million available under the salary cap, the organization aims to undertake a significant rebuild following a dismal 16-35 record over the last three seasons. McKenzie was one of the ten candidates interviewed during the initial round for Borgonzi’s position and had previously been a contender for the Titans’ general manager role back in 2008.
Ziegler, who spent the previous season as the senior personnel advisor for the New Orleans Saints, boasts 15 years of NFL experience. He served as the general manager for the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Ziegler began his NFL career in 2010 with the Denver Broncos in their scouting department before transitioning to the New England Patriots in 2013, where he worked his way up from assistant director of pro personnel to director of pro personnel by 2016, remaining in that position until 2019.
His role with the Patriots included a promotion to assistant director of player personnel in 2020 and director in 2021, contributing to the team’s success which included seven division championships and three Super Bowl victories during his tenure. A native of Tallmadge, Ohio, Ziegler played college football at John Carroll University and began his coaching career at the high school level in Arizona, later advancing to college coaching at Iona as well as at his university.
On the other hand, Reggie McKenzie, hailing from Knoxville and a former player at the University of Tennessee, was the first candidate interviewed for the role now held by Borgonzi. McKenzie had a notable playing career with the Raiders starting in 1985, in addition to stints with the Cardinals and 49ers before taking on the role of a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1993.
He dedicated 18 seasons to the Green Bay Packers from 1994 to 2011, serving in various capacities including as the director of football operations. Titans president of football operations, Chad Brinker, also has experience with Green Bay, where he worked as a scouting assistant and pro scout from 2009 to 2012. McKenzie led the Oakland Raiders as their general manager from 2012 to 2018 and most recently held a position as a senior personnel executive with the Miami Dolphins for the past six seasons.
