This upcoming spring, the Academy Museum will engage cinema enthusiasts by showcasing the creative processes of renowned figures in the industry, specifically Bong Joon Ho, the director of “Parasite,” and Greta Gerwig, who brought to life the vibrant world of “Barbie.” The museum announced on Thursday that new exhibitions scheduled for Spring 2025 will provide in-depth insights into the inspirations of Bong Joon Ho as well as the artistic vision crafted by the production design team behind “Barbie,” in addition to famed adaptations like “Anna Karenina” and “Beauty and the Beast.”
The Bong Joon Ho exhibit is set to debut on March 22 at the Los Angeles-based venue. It will feature over 100 unique items from his personal collection, including storyboards, posters, creature models, and props, effectively illustrating the journey of the Korean filmmaker from his initial projects in short films to his acclaimed Oscar achievements. Additionally, Bong will be present during the opening weekend for a series of screenings, further enhancing the exhibition experience. Previously, the museum celebrated the works of Agnès Varda as part of its “Director’s Inspirations” series.
Another significant exhibition is scheduled to launch on May 23, which will focus on the collaborative efforts of Oscar-nominated production designers, Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer. This segment will explore their creative processes in developing visual concepts for films, providing visitors with an engaging experience that incorporates props, materials from the production, and even a replica of their workspace from the film “Barbie.”
Academy Museum director Amy Homma expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “These exhibitions will showcase the incredible diversity of voices, stories, and cultures that have shaped the movie industry and the global film community. I am so excited for the public to celebrate and explore the imaginations and brilliance of Bong Joon Ho, Sarah Greenwood, and Katie Spencer.” The exhibitions promise to be a dynamic exploration of film artistry and storytelling.
