STILLWATER, Okla. — In a decisive matchup, Stailee Heard produced an impressive performance with 28 points and 10 rebounds, leading the No. 24 Oklahoma State Cowgirls to an 83-71 victory over Arizona State on Wednesday evening. This win marked the Cowgirls’ fourth consecutive triumph and extended the Sun Devils’ losing streak to seven games.
Oklahoma State, experiencing their best start in over a decade, found themselves trailing by two points before unleashing an 11-0 scoring streak, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Heard. This initial momentum built into a commanding 16-2 run that concluded the first quarter with the Cowgirls ahead 22-10. During this quarter, OSU showcased strong shooting, hitting 8 of 18 attempts, including three 3-pointers, while Arizona State struggled at 5 of 20 and failed to convert on five tries from beyond the arc.
By halftime, the Cowgirls had widened their lead to 41-26, finishing the second quarter by scoring the last five points. Heard contributed 11 points before the break, leveraging her skill in both scoring and rebounding.
The third quarter saw Heard continuing her strong play with two layups, aiding in an early 8-0 run that pushed the scoring gap to 49-28. Although the Sun Devils rallied with an 11-2 run to narrow the margin to 11 points in the fourth quarter, Oklahoma State quickly responded with two critical 3-pointers, dousing their comeback hopes.
In addition to Heard’s standout performance, the Cowgirls featured contributions from Anna Greata Asi, who scored 14 points, Tenin Magassa with 11, and Alexia Smith, who added 10 points.
