Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young has been placed on probation for 12 months as part of a plea agreement reached with the Solicitor’s Office in Athens-Clarke County on Wednesday. This plea deal comes in relation to misdemeanor charges of battery and assault involving his former girlfriend. Young entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The resolution of the case followed the retraction of statements made by his ex-girlfriend, which had initially led to his arrest on October 8.

Although Young rejoined practice with the Bulldogs later in the season, head coach Kirby Smart chose to keep him out of games until the legal situation was clarified. As of Wednesday, there were no updates from Smart or Georgia officials regarding Young’s status for the upcoming 2025 season.

Young’s attorney, Kim Stephens, confirmed that as part of his plea deal, Young will have to pay a fine of $500 and participate in a family violence intervention program, in addition to serving his probation.

According to a police report from the Athens-Clarke County police, the incident began when the pregnant woman visited Young’s apartment and they became involved in a heated discussion after she discovered he was speaking with another woman. The report noted that she expressed concerns that Young was attempting to harm her. However, Young denied causing any injuries and claimed that he did not grab her during the altercation.

On November 7, the woman publicly retracted statements alleging that Young had attempted to inflict harm on either her or her unborn child. Young had transferred to Georgia after spending two seasons at the University of Miami and had recorded 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns over five games in the previous season, with two of those being starts.
