WEST POINT, N.Y. — Kevin McCarthy contributed significantly off the bench with 14 points as Army secured an 84-72 win against Colgate on Wednesday night.
McCarthy showcased an impressive shooting performance, going 5 for 7 from the field and sinking 4 out of 6 three-point attempts for the Black Knights, who now stand at 12-9 overall and 6-3 in the Patriot League. Josh Scovens recorded 13 points, shooting 5 for 14 from the field, with 0 for 3 from the three-point line and converting 3 of 4 free throws. AJ Allenspach also played a key role, finishing perfect with 5 for 5 shooting, contributing 10 points.
On the other hand, the Raiders, with a record of 9-13 and also 6-3 in conference play, were led by Jeff Woodward, who scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Brady Cummins added 16 points, while Chandler Baker chipped in with 10 points.
Army seized the lead with 9:48 left in the first half and maintained it throughout the game. McCarthy was pivotal in the first half, scoring 11 points and helping the team to a 44-33 advantage at halftime. After the break, Scovens led the team with nine points.
Both teams are set to compete again on Saturday, with Army traveling to face American and Colgate hosting Lafayette.
