Wegmans issues recall for frozen chicken nuggets over potential bone pieces

Wegmans has initiated a recall of its frozen chicken nuggets across eight states and the District of Columbia due to potential contamination with bone fragments.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert regarding the fully cooked, breaded chicken breast nuggets, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that customers do not consume these products. Given that the items are no longer on the shelves, a formal recall notice was not deemed necessary by the agency.

The recall pertains specifically to 46-ounce plastic packages of “Wegmans Family Pack Fully Cooked Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat,” which have a “best if used by” date of August 26, 2025. This information can be found on the back of the packaging, adjacent to the barcode at the bottom right corner. The affected batches were produced on August 26, 2024.

These chicken nuggets were exclusively manufactured for Wegmans Food Markets and were distributed in several states, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, as well as Washington, D.C.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service was alerted to the problem after receiving numerous consumer complaints regarding the presence of bone fragments in the chicken nuggets. As of now, there have been no verified reports of injuries resulting from the consumption of the affected product.

The agency has expressed concern that some consumers may still have these nuggets stored in their freezers. Customers in possession of these chicken nugget packages are strongly advised against consuming them and are encouraged to dispose of the nuggets or return them to the place of purchase.

Wegmans has stated that any returned packages will be eligible for a full refund. For further inquiries, customers can reach out to Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663 on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and on weekends from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
