Milan has seen a significant shift in the fashion landscape with the announcement that Glenn Martens has been appointed as the new creative director for the Parisian fashion brand Maison Margiela. This change comes following the departure of John Galliano, the previous director, as disclosed by the brand’s Italian parent company, OTB, on Wednesday.
At 41, Martens brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as the creative director for Diesel, another label under OTB, since 2000. His tenure at Diesel has been marked by an evolution in the brand’s image, transforming it into a sought-after highlight of the Milan fashion scene through innovative and urban-inspired designs that utilize advanced textile techniques.
Martens marks the third individual to hold the creative director position at Maison Margiela, following the legendary founder Martin Margiela and Galliano, who ended his 10-year association with the house last month. The OTB chairman, Renzo Rosso, expressed confidence in Martens’ capabilities, stating that he has consistently demonstrated exceptional talent and a strong vision for fashion, particularly in the realm of couture.
Maison Margiela is known for its distinctive offerings in both haute couture and ready-to-wear segments, showcasing its collections in Paris. Martens’ new role is effective immediately, signaling an exciting new chapter for the revered fashion house.
