Johnston’s three consecutive goals and overtime strike secure 4-3 victory for Stars against Golden Knights

LAS VEGAS — Wyatt Johnston netted the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into overtime, completing a natural hat trick and leading the Dallas Stars to a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory against the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday night.

This marked Johnston’s second career hat trick, helping the Stars recover from a 3-1 deficit that they faced in the second period. With this win, Dallas has now triumphed in four of their last five games. Johnston had also accomplished a hat trick on March 5 of the previous season while competing against the San Jose Sharks.

In addition to Johnston’s impressive performance, Mavrik Bourque contributed with another goal for the Stars. Roope Hintz added two assists, and goaltender Jake Oettinger recorded 25 saves to secure the victory.

For the Golden Knights, Jack Eichel and Pavel Dorofeyev each tallied one goal and one assist. Tomas Hertl scored an additional goal, while Mark Stone provided two assists. The team’s goaltender, Adin Hill, also finished the night with 25 saves.

During the third period, Stars defenseman Miro Heiskanen exited the game and went to the locker room after a collision with Stone, who fell toward Heiskanen’s knee. This incident raised concerns about Heiskanen’s condition.

Hertl’s goal in the first period extended his personal point streak to an impressive 10 games, a feat that positions him as second in Golden Knights history, following Eichel’s 12-game streak achieved in 2023. Dorofeyev also made headlines with his tenth power-play goal this season, tying him just one shy of the franchise record for power-play goals in a single season, previously held by Eichel and Erik Haula.

Johnston’s shorthanded goal marked the fifth of his young career, placing him behind only Brian Bellows, who scored nine shorthanded goals at the same age in Stars’ history.
