BOULDER, Colo. — In a dramatic matchup on Tuesday night, Arizona State managed to secure a narrow victory against Colorado, finishing with a score of 70-68. The victory marked Colorado’s continuing struggles in the Big 12, leaving them winless in the conference.

Adam Miller was a key contributor for Arizona State, leading the team with 18 points. Alston Mason also made significant contributions, adding 17 points to the scoreboard, while Shawn Phillips Jr. contributed 13 points. Phillips demonstrated his proficiency from the foul line, going 9 for 11, including critical free throws down the stretch. Basheer Jihad rounded out the scoring for the Sun Devils with 11 points, nine of which came from the charity stripe.

On the other side, Colorado’s effort was led by Trevor Baskin, who scored 19 points off the bench. Julian Hammond III and Bangot Dak each added 13 points for the Buffaloes, but the team struggled to finish the game strong. Colorado’s last chance came when Phillips made one of two free throws with only two seconds left on the clock, taking Arizona State to a 70-68 advantage. The Buffaloes were unable to get a shot off in the final moments, failing to capitalize on their last opportunity.

The game featured several tense moments as Colorado fought to stay in contention. After being down 69-66, Sebastian Rancik drew a foul on a three-point attempt, converting two out of three free throws. In a critical sequence, Phillips called a timeout after a traveling violation by Miller. A blocked layup attempt from Andrej Jakimovski by Phillips followed, preventing Colorado from leveling the score.

Colorado managed to take its first lead of the night at 45-43, fueled by an 8-0 run capped off with two free throws from Hammond. However, Arizona State initially controlled the game, establishing an early lead of 11-2. Despite Colorado’s efforts to claw back and make it closer at 24-22 with a streak of 13-5 late in the first half, Arizona State finished the half ahead by a score of 33-26.

Next up, Arizona State will return to their home court to face off against the University of Arizona this coming Saturday. Meanwhile, Colorado will travel to Texas for a game against TCU on Sunday.
